The notion of creating animated content for adults is an old one. However, legendary animator Genndy Tartakovsky has taken things up by a few notches. Not only is Primal, his latest gorgeous 10-episode production, hand-drawn, but it is also dialogue-free.

Primal, in the animator’s own words, “a pulpy type of action-adventure story of a caveman and a dinosaur who share a similar tragedy and it bonds them to survive the primordial world together”. It follows the tale of Spear (Aaron LaPlante), who witnesses the gruesome death of his wife and kids at the jaws of hungry dinosaurs. The protagonist later unwittingly befriends a T-Rex called Fang, when it is also attacked by the same horde. Bonded by tragedy, this unlikely friendship becomes the only hope of survival in a violent, primordial world.

Primal features a caveman at the dawn of evolution, at a time before the existence of language. Yet, Tyler Bates, the man behind the OST for John Wick and Guardians of the Galaxy films, provides a percussion-heavy soundtrack—perfect for fight sequences. And according to the internet, the action sequences are raw, bloody and brutal.

Will Spear and Fang survive in this kill-or-be-killed world? Find out on Primal.
