Bangalore-based English band Best Kept Secret has had an incredibly busy year; they have just returned from a spectacular gig in Moscow and are in the process of curating no less than six music videos for next year. Kolkata will get a slice of their time as the band is headed this way to perform at the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club, supported by Indulge, The Morning Standard.

Incidentally, the band has an incredible fan base in the city and has performed here several times before. We catch up with frontman Behram Siganporia about their upcoming performance on December 7.

Tell us what you're planning for the Kolkata show

Since CCFC will be putting up all the Christmas Lights on December 7 , we plan to do a special Christmas Surprise for this show. Besides that we like to surprise our audience always so our set is gonna be our 'Best Kept Secret'.

Tell us about your connect with the city

We first performed in Kolkata at the Bengal Fashion Week around 3 years ago. We've come back for  5-6 shows in the last couple of years. Every time we come, we meet beautiful people and make friends. Kolkata knows its music and being an English band, predominantly, it's great to see the response that we always get. It’s truly the City of Joy for us.

You performed in Moscow very recently. Tell us about your experience.

Moscow was incredible. As a city, it's an architectural marvel with so many lovely things to see and do. We performed in Russia for the first time and we can't wait to go back to Russia. We even decided to jam on the streets with some local musicians and built up a good fan base and made some good friends as well.

The band is also making its foray into Bollywood this year

Tell us about any original work or future tours you're planning.

We have a lot going on in the band. We are currently working on our upcoming album but also constantly shooting music videos. We have planned to release six music videos in the coming year along with a series of covers and original music set to release. We will be touring extensively across Asia and Europe in 2020 and are planning to play in the UK for the first time, hoping things go according to plan

You're the most successful English pop/rock band in the country right now. How do you think your listener base has changed in the last four years?

When BKS was formed four and a half years back we initially only had a younger, teenage audience. As we started getting booked for corporate shows and private shows, our audience grew to include an audience which could relate to our songs in English. Very recently, we have ventured towards Bollywood, with interesting offers, so while we stay true to our music, the only thing we will change is the language in which we sing. This will further help us spread our music to a larger audience in India as well.

Can you tell us what's on your playlist right now?

At this point, I'm listening to a lot of Bollywood music as I work on improving my Hindi. However, artists like Queen, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Bruno Mars and Coldplay are permanently on my Playlist.
