Deepak Punia becomes worldNo. 1 in a new ranking by United World Wrestling

Deepak Punia gets another reason to celebrate after recently winning the silver medal at the UWW World Championship in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. Besides becoming the youngest Indian to enter the finals of the world championship, he has been named world No. 1 in the 86kg category in the latest ranking by United World Wrestling.

The 20-year-old had to pull out of the finals against Hassan Yazdanicharati of Iran at Nur-Sultan because of an injury. But, in the new ranking list, Deepak has beaten the Iranian athlete by four points. The young Indian has been lauded for his consistent form after winning a silver at Yasar Dogu and bronze medals at Asian Championship and at Sassari tournaments. 

Meanwhile, another Indian star Bajrang Punia, who went to the World Championships at No. 1 sees a drop in rank to No.2 after winning the bronze at the competition.
