Exactly 48 years ago, Lee Jun-fan aka Bruce Lee, had a dream. A vision that he transfigured into a script and desired to make a TV series out of it.

Cut to almost half a century later, the dream came to being and now is one of the hottest selling shows of television called Warrior.

Before you grab a bowl of popcorn and prepare yourself for binge-watching the series, let’s decode everything one must know about the series, including why it took 48 years for the show.

What is Warrior all about?
The series is based on San Francisco’s primaeval era of Tong Wars in late-1870s. The plot revolves around Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy from China who immigrates and journeys through America in search of his estranged sister. The mayhem intensifies as he has to deal with racial epithets and anti-immigrant prejudice.

Stars of the show!
Jonathan Tropper, who co-created Cinemax’s, Banshee, is the writer and the executive producer along with Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee. Justin Lin who directed three movies of Fast and the Furious franchise is the director of the series. The list doesn’t end here, as The Wrong Mans and Call the Midwives actor Andrew Koji portrays the character of Ah Sahm. Apart from this, Olivia Cheng, The Marco Polo actress and ex-journalist, is seen portraying the character of Ah Toy who is the most desired Chinese woman of the Wild Wild West.

Why did it take 48 years?
Bruce Lee had to cope with rejection as back in days when he pitched the script to the likes of Warner Brothers, it didn’t fly. He was adamant about his vision of an Asian as a protagonist as a result of which no one wanted to pick it up because at that time the practice of casting a mixed race as a lead wasn’t that appreciated.

Decades passed and years after Bruce’s appaling demise, Shanon Lee decided to make this concept see the light of the day. The show was finally aired on television in April 2019 with his intact vision of a mixed race protagonist.
