Uzma Firoz's bespoke and semi-precious jewellery label Style Addict can be your one-stop solution, if you need to sport bling throughout the year, and are tired of the same options when it comes to statement jewellery. From Rachana Banerjee to Arunima Ghosh and Koneenica Banerjee, the ladies of Tollywood are quite smitten with this label, which is only four-and-a-half years old, and has found a stunning resonance with women around the city who want to experiment in festive costume jewellery.
“We try to keep it fun, by designing many kinds of jewellery — from sterling silver numbers to kundan, to semiprecious stones to Swarovski stones, Mother-of-pearl, and some more traditional options. There’s something for everyone, which is what I think works in our favour, you know. People can figure out what they want if they get a good look at all the possibilities. We also do a lot of customised bridal jewellery, which has become really popular, as people want to experiment and can actually get something made that is fresh and interesting, and complements their ensembles,” Uzma tells us.
“We do the rounds of many exhibitions across the city, and people usually find us wherever we go. I think our loyalists know they can always trust us to come up with newer and more wearable options, even when it comes to heavy-set pieces. We also get a lot of famous names who really love Style Addict’s pieces, as they are so versatile,” says Uzma. Though they specialise in maximalist statement pieces, from jadau to Rajasthani-inspired numbers, ornate kundan chokers, chandbalis, etc, the label also creates some very trendy, breezier numbers to go with fusion or semi-ethnic indie wear.
Interestingly, Style Addict counts a number of millennials on its clientele list, and Uzma tells us that the younger crowd loves their bling, as long as it is convenient and practical. “They are always looking for interesting chandbalis, which have a festive vibe and are easier to wear, like quirky studs, and maang tikas — they’re attracted to the range of our collections,” adds Uzma. Bespoke jewellery has been gaining more popularity with the women in Kolkata, and Uzma thinks that the fact that people can conceptualise their own jewellery according to what they need is re-defining the way we dress.
“I think the biggest benefit is that people can tell me what they want, and we can cater to that. Someone can come and talk to me about what they need, for a particular occasion or for the wedding season, and I design that for them, keeping in mind their personal requirements. It’s a very easy set-up for people who love wearing bling and want to opt for economical numbers over high jewellery options. It’s value for money,” Uzma remarks. She also tells us that her upcoming Summer / Spring collection is all about stylish and semi-flashy bling, featuring Swarovski stones, and is set to have a spectacular lineup. Uzma also reveals that this year she’s set to launch her first outlet in Camac Street.
