Designer Amit Aggarwal recently unveiled his couture collection for 2019 in New Delhi. Amit who visited a virtual reality experience titled We Live In an Ocean of Air at Saatchi Gallery in London, was inspired by how the air we breathe travels through our system to illuminate every framework of our body.

Entitled Lumen, the garments’ framework was created with layers of recycled polymer understructures. Fluidity was achieved through the illusionary movement of the textiles used, each bearing intricate motifs and embroidery. The clothes were crafted from gossamer tulle lace and organza, which were hand-embroidered and detailed with structural elements to mimic human and plant anatomy. The colour story was a mix of jewel and metallic tones, moving from emerald, petrol, purple and plum to gold, blush, silver and ivory. The silhouettes range from saris and bridal lehengas to sharply tailored menswear.

“This year, we’ve taken risks and experimented with structuring and layering, we aimed to create an illusion of colours through shadow play and layers," said Amit.
