The Night Owl promises innovative drinks with classic bar eats

With a view of the glittering Conrad hotel, the Night Owl sits right by the Ulsoor lake. This newly opened bar has chosen to focus on their cocktail menu, boasting signature drinks with names like Heisenberg Special and One in a Minion. This certainly caught our attention, so we paid a visit on a Monday evening.

Tipsy turvy
The open and breezy ambience was very welcoming. We were handed the bar menu and we went straight for the Hollywood Blockbuster section. Whether it’s The Godfather (Amaretto and whiskey) or the Goblet of Fire (brandy, apple juice and coffee syrup), you can sip on some of your favourite movie-themed drinks here. We were in the mood for a classic so we opted for Bond’s Vodka Martini. Served shaken, not stirred, it was crisp and strong.Another interesting section on the menu is the Dessert-Themed Cocktails. We tried the Apple Pie On The Rocks. Made with apples and cinnamon, this whiskey-based drink was flavourful. You can also choose from Kahlua Oreo Milkshake, The Spiked Snickers Shake (spiked with hazelnut liqueur) or the Amaretto Hot Chocolate.

Tucking in
The food menu boasts Indian and Asian choices. We started our meal with the Seafood Rasam. Although it was really not the weather for soup, we still enjoyed the tangy preparation. Next, we were served an array of appetisers — some innovative, some old-school classics. We especially recommend the Dal Makhni Tart (small tartlets filled with the creamy dal), or the Deconstructed Vada Pav, bite-sized toast topped with chutney and spicy potato or lamb dumplings. For something Asian, we suggest their Baos. The pan-fried baos had the perfect texture and a scrumptious chicken stuffing.

At Night Owl, we suggest you give the mains a miss and choose from their appetisers. But if you want something substantial, try their pizzas, Chinese and pan-Indian dishes. The best choice is the Chicken 65 Biryani. Served with chicken and a boiled egg, it’s the ultimate comfort food. For dessert, we were treated to the Choco Lava Kulfi. While the combination of the rich chocolate with the chilled kulfi is a winner, it could get a little messy while eating.

Night Owl impressed us with its sought-after location and interesting cocktail menu.
