Golfing is a lifestyle, not just a game. “That’s why I dream of building an entire ecosystem around it,” says Kancharla Prithvi Reddy, CEO of Vooty Golf Course in Vikarabad, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. “My father Santosh Reddy and I have been dreaming about building a golf course with a resort for the last 20 years. Now, I have managed to merge his desire and passion with real estate and a lifestyle resort into one,” he says as he walks around the lush meadows of the 98 acres 18-hole golf course with residential units and a five-star resort. Interestingly, the name of the resort comes from Vikarabad’s Ooty, aka Vooty. “I must confess that was creativity taking a lethal spin,” he laughs. “By 2025, we would have built three golf courses and the fourth under construction, making us the only firm in India to own four. I don’t have a competitor in Hyderabad and the demand is on the rise for golfing. Ergo, I can vroom full throttle,” he says as the buggy meanders on to the meadows at the golf course designed by the Australia-based Pacific Coast Design by leading architects, Phil Ryan and Paul Reeves. What happens when his dad asks him to show him the money? “It’s a long term project. Golf can never give you back the money. It is the proverbial White Elephant which needs to be fed without getting much in return. However, the parallel service ecosystem around the golf course will fetch us big. During a recession, real estate is the first one to bite the bullet while health, education and entertainment remain on top of the game. So combining resorts with real estate is our way to fight the market challenges,” says the VIT civil engineering graduate. A man who loves Ratan Tata’s values and number crunching, he says, “Thirty per cent of my time is spent at the office is and the rest on planning, strategising and problem-solving.” What’s the one important lesson his seven-year career has taught him? “Apna time ayega. Do your duty and wait  for the takeoff.”
