An unusual story is doing the rounds on the internet, about a seemingly harmless purchase made online that really struck a goldmine for the buyer.
Reports said that a man in England recently purchased a Chinese vase for £1 (one Pound Sterling), the value of about INR 90 rupees at a charity shop. At the time, he had absolutely no idea about its true value.
A few days after making the purchase, the man tried to sell it on the e-commerce company eBay, where he began picking up a few offers. As it turns out, he suddenly began looking at offers of millions of dollars for the same vase.
Once he decided to auction the vase, the buyer brought his vase to the auction house of Sword's Fine Art in Essex. According to sources, after a close examination, it was found that the vase was actually dated to being approximately 300 years old.
The same vase was soon bought by a Chinese collector for a reported sum of INR 4.48 crore. However, the names of the buyer have not been revealed.
Online reports speculated that the vase was made for the 18th century Chinese Emperor Qianlong, who ruled from 1735 to 1796.
