For all the high-strung and anxious people, city-based artist Simran Kaur Wahan’s Soulful Journey promises to be a great stress buster. Striking an equilibrium between mindfulness and composure, this artistic offering promises to help you breathe easy. With lotus flowers and a dragonfly as the first two illustrations of her 110-page colouring book, the artist who is also the owner of The Amaya Store — a handmade craft boutique, says that these sketches signify rebirth and self-realisation. “Having attended art workshops within and outside the country, I currently have an accumulation of colouring books from across the world and wanted to do something on those lines,” says Simran.

Fill-me-in
Launching her therapeutic colouring book earlier this month, the Coimbatore-based artist includes in her collection a variety of motifs like teapots and mandalas. From childhood memories that she cherishes to her love for antiques, Simran’s illustrations and designs in the book are engaging. With 150 sketches of flowers, birds, butterflies, cupcakes, popsicle, Karaikudi and Moroccan tile designs filling up her pages, the artist shares that she almost took two days to finish a drawing depending upon the intricacy of the subject. Saying that there were no guidelines printed in the book, she continues, “There are no such rules for colouring. If you wish to paint the flowers blue or the cameras in red and yellow, you should.”

Away we go
Bringing in meditative mandalas from her Ladakh and Bhutan diaries, this doodler by passion also embraces her love for travelling by dedicating pages to it in the book. Be it individual sheets for cameras, vintage suitcases or an illustration of a car with clouds and a smiley sun atop, the 35-year-old artist attempts to help people relive their early days. “It took me five months to consolidate my designs and the collection also has illustrations that dates back a few years,” shares the creator.

Planning to publish specific-themed colouring books on mandalas, flowers and ferns and a special compilation of her travel memoirs in the forthcoming years, the creator has sold out 300 copies of her current book, we learn. ''This intimate book is also picked up by the couple who wish to spend quality time and is also a great form of recreation for grandparents, thus helps to overcome stress and depression,'' she adds. Speaking about the picking up trend of an adult colouring book in the country, she says that there are quite a few Indian artists coming up with de-stressing books, whereas earlier such books were only imported. Simran Wahan's Soulful Journey is also expected to hit the stores at Bengaluru by the first week of February.

Handy in size, the book that is Rs 500, comes with a box of colour pencils.
