British Council – in association with the Reading Agency, UK – brings the Reading Challenge to India. The challenge is to encourage, motivate and inspire children to read for pleasure, and in turn improve their English, develop their reading skills, and build their confidence. The six-week challenge is open to children from the age of five to 11 and will commence from 2 November in Bengaluru.

This year’s theme is the Space Chase. The theme has been chosen to celebrate the 50 years of humans landing on the moon. The challenge expects the participating children to read six or more books, in six weeks from a collection of handpicked titles by British Council.

The British Council will also organise multiple workshops for participants to help them improve reading skills, and acquire storytelling and creative writing skills. The Reading Challenge will culminate in an award ceremony where winners will be felicitated and awarded certificates.

Here are some of the workshops part of the event:
1. Writing book reviews: 17 November
2. Describing characters: 24 November
3. Storytelling and writing: 1 December
