Five reasons you can't miss Bangalore Literature Festival 2019

Bangalore Literature Festival returns with its 8th edition. The festival gives literature enthusiasts a chance to meet and listen to 200 authors and speakers from across the globe. The event which had its first edition in 2012 is India's largest independent and  community-funded literary festival. As with earlier editions, this time too, speakers will discuss topics that have been brought to light recently. This year's subjects include climate change, liberalism, science fiction, mental health and more. The audience can expect performances and panel discussions by personalities such as singer and songwriter Lucky Ali, acid attack survivor Reshma Qureshi and literary agent Preeti Gill. A fantastic line-up of performances by Manjari Chaturvedi, an Indian sufi kathak dancer, classical music outfit, Thayir Sadam Project, and Revanta Sarabhai, Indian film and theater actor.

PANKAJ KAPUR
Television and National Award winning actor Pankaj Kapur will be at the festival on the first day. The acclaimed actor and father of Shahid Kapoor recently completed writing his first novel, Dopehri. The fictional story is about an elderly woman, Amma Bi, who lives in a deserted mansion in Lucknow. 


LISA RAY
Philanthropist, model, social activist, Indian Canadian actress and television host, Lisa Rani Ray, released her memoir, Close To The Bone, in May, 2019. The story of Lisa Ray gives an account of her life in the entertainment industry as a teenager, her relationship with her parents, the battles she fought against her eating disorders, being diagnosed with cancer at a fairly young age, her spiritual quest and her life on a whole. 

IAN MCDONALD
British author and sci-fi novelist, Ian McDonald will make an appearance on both days of the Bangalore Literature Festival. When he writes, he generally focuses on a particular theme which may include nanotechnology, the impact of rapid social and technological change on non-Western societies and science. His latest book, published this year, was The Menace From Farside, which focuses on the genres of space opera, science fiction and and coming-of-age fiction. On the first day, Ian will bring to light 'Trends and Technologies Shaping our Tomorrows' with Sri Lankan science fiction author and researcher, Yudhanjaya Wijeratne, and on the second day, he will speak on 'India 2047 - Many Indias Possible' with columnist TG Shenoy.

SIMON TAUFEL
Simon James Arthur Taufel is a former Australian cricket umpire. He is a corporate trainer who has conducted programs on leadership, conflict management, resilience, goal setting, continuous improvement and personal development. At the Bangalore Literature Festival, he will talk about 'Line of Sight' with Vaibhav Purandare and on 'Writing Sport' with Indian international cricketer Mayank agarwal, Senior Editor at ESPN, Sharda Ugra and Sports Lawyer, Nandan Kamath. 

WANJIRU KOINANGE
Wanjiru Koinange, an accomplished Kenyan writer whose literary works have been published in several journals and magazines across the world, will be speaking at the festival on both days. On the first day, she will speak on the topic of 'Restoring Public Libraries', with Vani Mahesh and on the second day, she will speak on 'The Havoc of Choice', with Sanjukta Dasgupta.
