Singer-songwriter Maalavika Manoj, known by her stage name Mali, made waves with her song Mango Showers earlier this year. The Mumbai-based artiste is back in the news now as she embarks on a nation-wide tour. Talking about it, she says, “It’s funny when Indian artistes talk about having a winter tour because most parts of India don’t experience a full winter — it’s sweater weather at the best. Hence, my
Sweater Weather Tour was born.” Next week, Mali stops by Bengaluru for a gig at Fandom.

The performance will include the pop and alternative artiste’s already released material, and a preview of all the new songs from an upcoming album that also features Mango Showers. “This song is inspired by the suicide of a friend of mine due to pressure from the music industry. I wanted to depict it in the form of a theatrical dance video. It’s something that all of us have experienced and I wanted to address that with the song and the video,” she shares.

The, titled Caution To The Wind, will consist nine songs. “I hope to release the album in the first half of 2020 and can’t wait to perform it around the world,” she adds. The Mumbai-based singer feels this new album is more nuanced because of her years of experience. “I think I was a lot more vulnerable at the start since I was still a teenager. My earlier music came from an angsty adolescent place. They were raw and quite deeply personal. Now, as I’ve gotten older and experienced a bit more, I’m finding more ways to express myself and reflect the world as I see it,” she signs off.

Rs. 499. December 18, 8 pm. At Fandom, Koramangala
