The beginning of our conversation with Abishek Kumar sounds like a curious case of mixed analogies where the Chennai-based stand-up comedian’s question “Abhish Mathew has a talk show, Kaneez has The General Fun Game Show. What do we have?” sounds a lot like Amitabh Bachchan’s cult lines from the movie Dewaar. However, whatever may be the resemblance, Abishek does make a strong case for a new format in the South Indian comedy scene.

Attempting to create a new niche in a milieu that is almost saturated with stand-up, The Pundits (a Chennai-based comedy collective) launched The Most Random Show Ever in Chennai earlier last year.  Now, four episodes later, the group is set to debut their show in Coimbatore this weekend.

A mix of a game and chat show coupled up with musical sketches and stand up sets, The Most Random Show Ever promises a dose of clean humour that is relatable. “The show delivers on its name. It brings together jokes and stories, most of which are improv,” explains  Abishek, who will play the host of the show. “How and what we perform with the guests is completely random and will be revealed only during the show. You need to be there to know!” he says with a laugh.

Accompanied by Karthik Ananth Subramaniam, Prashant Srinivas and Smarabh Sriram, all of whom are trained theatre artistes, each portion of the show will feature and highlight individual talent. “All of the performers will handle a segment in the 90-minute show, but some portions will have multiple performers. For example, the musical parts will feature Prashant, who is our musician.”

Rs 250. On March 3. At @641. From 7.30 pm onwards
