Miss Africa 2018 Dorcas Kasinde’s wig catches fire after receiving her crown on stage

The incident occurred after several people on and off the stage lit firecrackers at the Calabar International Convention Centre, where the finals of the competition took place.

There are a lot of bizarre events happening around the world but the most recent one seems to have taken a dangerous turn after the wig of Miss Africa 2018 caught fire moments after she was crowned on stage in Nigeria. Miss Congo Dorcas Kasinde, who was crowned the winner hugged her competitors immediately after being announced the winner but did not realise her hair was on fire, till others on stage realised the calamity. 

The incident occurred after several people on and off the stage lit firecrackers at the Calabar International Convention Centre, where the finals of the competition took place. However, one of the crackers landed in her wig as she was hugging the other contestants. The video of the incident has now gone viral but the fire was immediately put out for the 24-year-old, and she safely accepted the prize money of $35,000 and a sports utility vehicle. Kasinde beat Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnaemeka and Zambia’s Gladys Kayumba to emerge victorious on a dramatic night. 

The video was immediately posted online after it occurred on live television, during which the host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu put out the fire before it could take a turn for the worse. Kasinda walked the ramp soon after and assured all her fans, that she was completely fine.
