Busy with the promotions of his latest Marathi release Mogra Phulala, actor producer Swapnil Joshi is ecstatic with the ratings of the mother-son story. Known for his role as Krishna in Ramanand Sagar’s mythology of the same name, the 41-year-old Mumbai-based actor who has produced many Marathi films is currently working on his first Hindi web series. Joshi talks to Indulge about co-producing the untitled romantic thriller, why a series should be made on Indian politics and more.

This is your first Hindi venture on the OTT platform…

I feel cinema itself is a language. It does not have any linguistic barrier. We all watch good films without bothering about language. We watch Iranian, Bengali, Telugu films with subtitles. In coming years the line will further blur and web is a brilliant platform. In real life no one is Hindi or Marathi.

What made you take up a romantic thriller?

I am co-producing it and I am in-charge of the creative aspect of the series. I have always loved stories that have romance in it but I also thought what if love has some other shade. In fact, love has maximum number of shades and each one is unique and different. In reality relationships are complicated. I want to do a love story which is closer to reality. Films like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Andhadhun, Chernobyl and others take us closer to reality and they stay with us for long. I am looking for a story that would move you. R&D is the most amazing part and I am enjoying it.

When can we expect the series to be out?

We plan to launch it by the end of this year or early next year.

What are your favourite web series?

I watch different genres and I have loved watching Black Mirror, House of Cards, Chernobyl and Made in Heaven to name a few. Web is just pushing the barrier. Ever since I have watched House of Cards I wish someone could make a series on India’s Political scene. I wish I could get the chance to make a production like that because Indian politics is full of drama and there is so much of emotion and sentiment attached to it.

You are known for the role of Krishna, do people still call you that?

Some roles are not restricted to just a character but it becomes a part of your life. And Krishna is one such character. Though it’s been two decades now but people still call me Krishna. I thank my stars that I got the opportunity to play such an immortal role. A lot of other actors have played that role again but they could never achieve that status that I was blessed with.

Any upcoming projects in Bollywood?

Though I am quite busy with my own production work but I am open to offers.
