Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy search for the true religion of humans in their new film, Gotro
Set for a Janmasthami release, Gotro raises socially and politically relevant issues
Their movie Konttho is one of the blockbusters of this year so far earning more than Rs 3 crores in the box office according to Bookmyshow and still going strong in the theatres. But filmmaker duo Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy have once again surprised the audience pleasantly by releasing the logo of their film, Gotro today in social media.
The movie directed by Mukherjee and Roy is set to release this year August and has raised another very socially relevant issue. As the name suggests, the movie is around searching for the true identity of a human being. Is it their religion or caste, or is it humanity? In these politically charged times, their movie seems to raise very pertinent questions. Though the director duo remains tightlipped the topic or casting, they confirmed the fact that never before had they released two films on a single year. In fact, if Belashuru -- a family saga and a sequel to the 2015 blockbuster Belashese -- releases this Puja, then the filmmakers will be doing a hattrick.
"It will be another moving human story just like our other films, but I cannot tell anything more about the film. It's in the production stage and we expect to release it around Janmasthami in August since there is a strong connection with the birthday of Lord Krishna," confirms Shiboprosad.
Konttho, which is running successfully in the theatres across got screened at several theatres in the US too since June 15 and got a stupendous response among the NRI Bengalis. The film starring Shiboprosad in the lead role deals with the story of a radio Jockey who lost his to laryngeal cancer.
Produced by Windows and Akshay Kumar Parija, Gotro has Anasua Majumdar, Kharaj Mukherjee, Manali Ghosh in crucial roles among others, though the production house or the directors refused to divulge the star cast or confirm the same.
