An exclusive interaction with Holland Roden

Fans can expect the upcoming Season Six of Teen Wolf to break their hearts, as Holland Roden, who plays Lydia Martin in the teen drama, has issued a forewarning about the emotional intensity of the new episodes. In other words, this is expected to be the final season of the show, and the end of the story’s banshee history. If only for the sake of keeping her voice, Roden says she’s quite relieved. Excerpts from an exclusive interaction —

Compared to your previous shows Lost and Weeds, how different has Teen Wolf been?

I was on this show for years. I grew up on this show. It established a career for me.

Your role demands a lot of fighting scenes. How do you prepare?

Stretching, and I have dance experience.

Lydia Martin can sense when someone is dying. What would your superpower in real life be?

I am very organised, but I wish I could talk to animals.

What challenges did you face playing a banshee?

The screaming was definitely difficult.

How badly did you hurt your vocal cords?

I’ve developed more of a raspy voice. I work with a speech therapist to get my old voice back — or
rather my strength back.

Do you think you could have portrayed Allison Argent better?

I am very happy with the role that Jeff and MTV cast me in. Everything happened as it was supposed
to.

You have recently also guest starred in shows such as Criminal Minds, Community and Cold Case. Is there any TV show that you wish you were a part of?

I wish I was a part of Mad Men or Breaking Bad or The Wire.

You’ve also been pursuing some serious academic interests — including molecular biology and women studies. How do you balance your interests with your professional work?

It was really hard in my early 20s. I was lucky to be able to work and graduate.

What’s next? What would your dream project be?

I would like to work with Jack O’Connell. The story drives me — as long as they’re wellrounded characters, and a good story, I'm game. Teen Wolf Season 6 airs every Saturday at 10 pm on AXN.
