Raipur-based footwear label Iron Tailor serves up a new range of colourful ladies brogues in leather
Iron Tailor creates stylish and classic pieces by blending together old and new fashion trends
Iron Tailor, a Raipur-based footwear label has redefined footwear for both men and women. Headed by the self-taught designer and entrepreneur, Kavit Passary, the two-and-a-half-year-old brand has already participated in more than 20 to 30 exhibitions, till now.
This season, they have come out with a new range of women’s shoes called leather brogues, which is available in a variety of colours like pink, white, blue and red. The oxford shoes, as they are called, are made with genuine leather, both on the inside as well as the outside, which prevents the soles of the feet from sweating, as is the case with normal shoes. This time, they have also launched a collection of ladies handbags for the first time, in colours like teal blue and rose gold.
“I always wanted to get into the leather industry and gradually realised that the market for women’s shoes is much greater than men’s footwear,” says Kavit, who started the label with a very small collection of laptop bags and travel bags in 2016, with an exhibition in Chhattisgarh, Raipur itself. The exhibition was sold out entirely and that encouraged Kavit to start his own brand. “The word ‘Iron’ means strong, straight lines and the word ‘Tailor’ stands for creativity, as my products are both fashionable and edgy,” Kavit tells us.
“I kept company with a lot of designers during my college days and that is how I got to understand the world of fashion. Even now I follow most of the designers and whenever a good idea occurs to me, I sketch it out on a piece of paper. I learnt a lot about fashion during my five years in Mumbai too, where I worked with international labels in the export industry,” adds Kavit, who is a CFA by qualification.
Iron Tailor’s previous collection, was an amalgamation of understated style and tradition, wherein he had combined both Kalamkari and leather, to create formal shoes. Despite having a colourful rustic look of the traditional Kalamkari print- the inner and outer layers of leather made it a stylish statement piece. The leather tote, with a transferable body case, was another innovative piece by them wherein the outer leather harness, holding the case remains the same, and you can use a different coloured case each day.
The label will soon be stocking at different multi-designer stores across the country. Till then, their collections are available on their website as well as at a leading online shopping website. Kavit also plans to come to Kolkata, with a new range of collections in the latter part of the year.
