This Royapettah pizzeria is changing the way you eat pizza, with 18-inch slices

While Mumbai and Bengaluru already have already seen quite a few restaurants, Chennai can now order not just a nine or 14-inch pizza but also an 18-inch trea, which can easily make a loaded pizza.

Feeding your pizza cravings just got easier, as Delhi-based Chicago Pizza just opened its first outlet in the city and is serving pizzas by the slice. So you don’t have to order an entire pizza like before!

While Mumbai and Bengaluru already have already seen quite a few restaurants, Chennai can now order not just a nine or 14-inch pizza but also an 18-inch treat, which can easily make a loaded cheesy treat. The pizzeria is nestled in the small by-lane on TTK Road, off the Madras Music Academy exit gate, with bright interiors and witty pizza quotes.

While the menu at the pizzeria, which is owned by Delhi-based restaurateur Mohit Bansal, is extensive with over 20 varieties of pizzas to choose, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, it also serves other Italian staples like pasta and garlic bread. Calling it the Monster slice, for its sheer enormity, Chicago Pizza has the likes of a Classic Margherita and even a Pineapple pizza for vegetarians, as well as a Chicken Tikka, and a classic pepperoni and jalapeno pizza too.

Before the big pizza feast, garlic bread is mandatory, so we do just that and start with the Spicy Veggie, which is topped with onion, capsicum, jalapeno and olives with mozzarella cheese. For non-vegetarians, the Chicken Supreme — a mix of BBQ and smoked chicken with onions, can get you started. Choosing from so many options can get a little confusing, which is where the Veg Overloaded Monster slice makes it easier, because it has a little bit of everything. Loaded with fresh capsicum, mushrooms, corn, olives, jalapenos, paneer and onions on a thick crust pizza slice topped with melted mozzarella cheese. Skip regular chicken pizzas for a complete Meat Feast as it is topped with two different kinds of meat — mutton kheema and chicken meatballs, onions and mildly spiced with red paprika on a bed of mozzarella cheese-laden crust.

A chilled Blue Lagoon and a sweet Green Apple cooler from the Tropical Mocktails makes for perfect coolers to wash down the pizzas and get ready for the delicious pasta, which we are told comes next. To our delight, the Chicago Special Pasta is served simply with red paprika, jalapenos and onions, and tossed in a creamy white sauce; on the other hand, the Chicken Tikka pasta served in red sauce is spicy with small cubes of chicken mixed with onions and capsicum. Chicago Pizza is easily a pizza lover’s new haunt and while the restaurant doesn’t serve desserts, a strawberry-flavoured cooler leaves us happy with our meal, before we make our way home.

Meal for two: Rs 1,000 plus taxes.
