A few days after superstar Rajinikanth cancelled his trip to Sri Lanka, the actor thanked the Tamils of the neighbouring country for their love and affection.

The 66-year-old actor had scheduled a visit on April 9 to the island country, which was opposed by the local pro-Tamil outfits.

"I came to know your love for me through the media. I have no words to thank you. Let us think good and only good things will happen," the actor expressed in a statement.

The actor was supposed to reach the city of Jaffna on April 9 to hand over the keys of 150 homes built by the Gnanam Foundation.

In reaction to his travel plan earlier, the Liberation Panther Party aka Vidhuthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) had advised the actor to re-consider his decision to visit Sri Lanka to inaugurate the housing scheme. They said it might earn him the wrath of the Tamil community.

As a part of this visit, organised by Lyca Productions, Rajinikanth was expected to speak at a public meeting and plant tree saplings. According to a source in VCK, Rajinikanth's visit was expected to prove to the world that things were back to normal in Sri Lanka.
