AC/DC co-founder and guitarist Malcolm Young dead at 64

After a 10 year battle with dementia, co-founder and guitarist of rock band AC/DC Malcolm Young has died.

After a 10 year battle with dementia, co-founder and guitarist of rock band AC/DC Malcolm Young has died at age 64.

“It is with deep heartfelt sadness that AC/DC has to announce the passing of Malcolm Young. Malcolm, along with Angus, was the founder and creator of AC/DC. With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band,” read a statement on the band's website. The statement said that Young died peacefully on Saturday surrounded by family.

Young left the band three years ago with worsening dementia, and was later forced to retire from the band that he co-founded in 1973.

Eddie Van Halen and Ozzy Osbourne are amoung those that have publicly mourned his death.
