'I was put into the dark-skinned category initially': Malaika Arora about facing colour bias

Bias against dark-skinned actors in the film industry has always been a topic of discussion.

Recently, actress Malaika Arora opened up about her fight against the issue during her talk with Neha Dhupia on #NoFilterNeha Season 4.

“I came at a time in the business when this whole thing about dark-skinned, fair-skinned was so prevalent and I was always put into the dark-skinned category so that was always there initially,” the actress reportedly said.

Malaika started her career in the industry as a VJ, after which she featured in dance videos and film songs. 

Filmmaker Nandita Das also heads the Dark is Beautiful campaign, which aims to create awareness about skin colour bias.
