When it comes to director Srijit Mukherji’s movies, it’s always about breaking box office records and setting new milestones. On top of that, Bengalis get to listen to dulcet tunes that linger for a long while. His soon-to-be released Bengali film, Uma, is no exception to the rule. The second song of the film, Aloshyo(Lethargy), released on May 9, has already garnered 231K views till May 14 midnight and was trending at number six on its second day of release itself.

This mellifluent single was a part of Anupam Roy’s first album, Durbine Chokh Rakhbo Na, but this time around, Roy did not sing it. Instead he chose budding actor and singer Surangana Bandyopadhyay to lend her voice.

“Srijit Mukherji called me and said, Anupam Roy wanted me to sing this number. I recorded and sent the sample and got selected. I couldn’t believe the song would garner so much praise for me,” says Bandyopadhyay, who starred in the movie Open Tee Bioscope, but prefers singing to acting. Well, if you hear her croon, you, too, might agree that she shouldn’t let her voice go waste.
