At the Cannes Film Festival 2026, actress Anastasia Andrushkevich created buzz on the red carpet when she wore an outfit reminiscent of Princess Diana’s Cannes look from 1987. The French-Russian actress wore a customized baby blue gown at the premiere screening of her film Fjord at the Cannes Film Festival.
The actress wore an off the shoulder long gown designed by Mehmet Ozden. The gown had a fitted bodice, A-line skirt and matching stole that was draped over her shoulders. The actress accessorised the ensemble with dangling silver earrings, her hair in a blonde bob with most of the hair worn to one side, and pale pink make-up. Judging by the amount of vintage style gowns at the event, the actress has interpreted Princess Diana's Cannes look perfectly.
The link to the initial idea for the design came from Princess Diana’s Cannes look, where she was wearing a pale blue, chiffon, strapless gown by Catherine Walker. She wore the gown with a matching stole and elegant silver jewellery as part of an outfit that has become iconic. Princess Diana's look at Cannes will be etched in memory forever.
Diana wore the Catherine Walker dress after the Cannes Film Festival at the Theatre Royal in London for a production of "Miss Saigon" in 1989. She also wore the dress during a photoshoot by photographer Terence Donovan in 1987. As stated by Julien's Auctions, this dress later sold at auction for $137,500.
Designer Catherine Walker, who worked with the Princess for many years, gained notoriety for her designs in line with Diana's evolving style at the royal court. Walker also designed outfits for Diana's public events, such as the Italian royal tour that took place in 1985 and the opera event in Germany in 1987.
The recreations of Princess Diana's Cannes look, by Anastasia Andrushkevich for the 2026 red carpet, made the legacy relevant once again. The silhouette was kept true to the original but the new creation had a soft couture feel through the tailored work of Mehmet Ozden.
