Head to Pappa Roti in Whitefield for buns that are as soft as clouds
A few week ago, Malaysia’s go-to cafe Pappa Roti opened its doors in Bengaluru. Known for its indulgent buns with a seemingly endless array of toppings, the chain has over 400 outlets across the globe in locations like Canada, Dubai, Japan and China.
We visited on a weekday for a first-hand experience of their famous buns that are baked fresh and said to have a crispy and crunchy outer layer with a super soft and buttery core. One of their most popular options is the Lotus Biscuit, which is a plain bun topped with crushed Lotus Biscoff, a Belgian brand of biscuits renowned for its caramelised flavour. The crunchy outer layer and the crumbly biscuit combined with the spongy interior to create contrasting textures. Next, we sampled the Cheese bun, which is topped with cream cheese. The topping added a slightly salty note to the sweet golden brown bread, which hit the spot.
Another must-try is the option that features a topping of Nutella with Hazelnuts. A lot more decadent and indulgent, this was a hit at our table. We also enjoyed the Strawberry with Whipped Cream. The sweetness of the strawberry sauce was offset by the velvety cream and the bread.
To cut all the sugar, we also tucked into Baked Potato Wedges served with garlic mayo and salsa, Penne Cheese Alfredo and BBQ Chicken Pizza (BBQ-flavoured diced chicken with mozzarella cheese and bell peppers). While all three were on point, it’s clear that the heroes here are the buns. We paired the buns with a hot cup of cappuccino, but if coffee is not your thing some of their other options include Peanut Butter Almond Shake, Ginger Milk Tea, Hot Milk, Hot Chocolate, Iced Tea and Choco Brownie Frappe.
Pappa Roti offers you buns as you’ve never seen them before and while we had a bit of sugar overdose sampling an assortment of options, we’d say that the ideal portion size has just the right amount of sweetness.
