A creative team of pastry chefs from Chennai has constructed an Easter egg that is as big as a house! Except, standing at 3.5 feet tall, it will like only fit the quintessential bunny that is a part of the season's festivities. Architected with an eggs-travagant 90 kgs of chocolate over the course of a week, the inside of the egg (showcasing a bunny mansion) boasts plenty of intricate fondant detailing. Look closer to spot a sprawling white staircase and even a luxury bathtub. So perhaps in a real estate sense, the INR 1.5 lakh price tag is not as exorbitant as we thought.
"Easter is about commemorating the resurrection of Jesus. Bunnies are a symbol of Easter, known for bringing in Easter eggs, which is a symbol of new life. Hence, to celebrate this festival we decided to showcase the importance of both bunnies and the Easter egg through our creation," says Chef Ranjith Kumar - Pastry Chef, The Leela Palace Chennai. Currently, the egg is on display at the star hotel's, The Cake Shop. This is definitely one of those 'look and don't touch' works of art with the egg placed within the safe confines of a glass showcase - neither can be moved even by staff, we are told.
The dual level 'house' has a living room with wooden floors, a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and study, complete with a flatscreen TV and a laptop powered up with a Google search screen visible... All of this was sculpted with 90 kgs of chocolate and five kgs of fondant. "This is the first time we have done created a centrepiece on this scale and look forward to creating more such interesting pieces," chef Ranjith shares with us.
