Get ready for the Bite of France Festival
French food, art and music meet at the first Bite of France festival
Pondicherry has always made for a delightful potpourri of cultures. Playing up the French colony influence this time, Tablo Noir, a Chennai-based design company brings us A Bite Of France — a grand event to celebrate the culture and cuisine of the country. “Growing up in Puducherry, I had a lot of French and Creole food and they bring back a lot of memories for me,” says Sherine Rheeman, Director, Tablo Noir. She adds, “However, the possibility of tasting the most authentic dishes of these cuisines under one roof does not come often and that’s when we got the idea to host this festival.”
During this three-day debut edition, the entire premises has been remodelled to look like the streets of France. You can witness some of the best restaurants in Puducherry, coming together under one roof, with carefully-crafted menus for this festival. The ten stalls include pop-ups by Café Xtasi, Zuka, Palais de Mahe, Smoothie Bar and Ummami. We have our eyes on the warm and fresh-baked quiche and French baguette, plus street food by Tasty Truck.
If you feel overwhelmed by all the bread, butter, cheese and herbs, you can also stop by a few stalls at the venue that will offer Indo-French, Vietnamese and Creole cooking from stalls set up by city residents. Between bites you can also explore the other ten stalls at the venue, where you can buy paintings by various contemporary artists and organic clothing from shopping stalls.
Besides all the retail therapy and food fixes, here are some more reasons to linger — as joining in all the way from Reunion Islands in France will be the Tambours Sacres, an 11-member professional music, dance and culture team. Along with them, you will also witness H20, a four-member Pondicherry-based band and DJ Sleepwalker.
From August 11-13 at Sinnaya Gardens. Tickets at Rs. 500 on in.bookmyshow.in.
