'Ente Keralam' the brand new restaurant, has everything Kerala about it

The brand new restaurant, Ente Keralam at Race Course opened a week ago offers authentic Kerala cuisine at its best.

Elegantly decorated with palm leaves and yellow- orange chrysanthemums, anyone to pass by Ente Keralam, the brand new restaurant at race course would want to stop and get a good look of it. From the welcoming décor to the classic Malayalam songs playing inside, anything you come across here has a touch of Kerala in it.

“A few months ago, we had conducted a food festival featuring cuisines from different parts of Kerala and the overwhelming response we got convinced us that it’s high time we started an authentic Kerala food place”, says Vijaykumar, the owner, as he gives us a tour of the place.

As the pleasant staff directs us to the table styled with flowers and miniature fishing nets, I take a quick look around to see the busy tables doing rounds. Delighted at the varieties offered in the menu I ask Jayaprasad, the head chef for suggestions.

Starting best

Keraleeyam, the chilled tender coconut drink with mint, that was offered first felt refreshing and more than welcoming. All set to try the dishes, we are served Trivandrum Style Kozhi Porichathu for starters. With the right amount of crisp and spice, the deep fried chicken garnished with onion rings and curry leaves is sure to make anyone ask for more. Vazhapoo cutlet, a crispy brown snack made of banana flower served with beet

root sauce graced the table as yet another starter.

 The complete meal

The appam, so light and crisp in texture becomes an irresistible dish when served with the delicious vegetable stew. Along with it we are served Idiyappam, rice string hoppers with Alleppey fish curry. Attractively red, the perfectly cooked seer fish in the slightly sweet mango gravy is heavenly when had with both appam and idiyappam. The Thalessery biryani with coconut chammanthi (chutney), raita and pickle, came next. That’s when the touch of the classic palada payasam comes our way in a shining tumbler having which the meal felt complete. Or is it? Try the spicy Kerala Sulaimani for an even more finishing end.
