Jump, squat, lunge and repeat! This is no longer just the mantra of fitnessobsessed celebrities and film stars. With an increasing number of fitness events being hosted in the city, more and more citizens are seriously making fitness a part of their lifestyle. While boot camps have been around for sometime, this weekend, Bengaluru will witness a first of-its-kind event called Fit Bengaluru - The Wellness Festival.

Curated by well-known fitness expert, Carun Carumbiah, the two-day event will be held at UB City. It includes workout sessions, talks and aqua fitness workshops. “The festival has been designed to offer workshops and sessions that focus on inner and outer well-being for adults, kids, geriatrics, pregnant women and new moms. Over 30 workouts and talks, a 5K run, a fit food market and an eco-market make this a large and unique coming together of everything that is good for you,” says Carun, the festival director.

Get up, get moving
If you are someone who loathes going to the gym, but enjoys moving to music and fast beats, then Zumba Party, Ninjafit-Animal Flow and Brazilian Capoeira are some of the sessions you shouldn’t miss. Sucheta Pal, the ambassador and education specialist for Zumba Fitness LLC, will be conducting a session as well. At her session, expect a mix of fast and slow beats and test the agility of your body. Explaining what she means by different beats, Sucheta says, “We will be moving to several rhythms incorporated in Zumba from 186 countries, among which my favourite five rhythms will be Samba from Brazil, Flamenco from Spain, Cumbia from Colombia, Belly dance from Africa and Merengue from the Dominican Republic.”

Break a sweat
However, if you are someone who prefers to test your strength and endurance, the Push-Up Challenge, Crossfit and Planking Challenge are sessions to try out. In addition, Mumbai-based fitness expert, Cindy Jourdain will host Cindy’s Bootcamp, a session that is quite lethal. “It will be a body weight workout with a twist! It is a Bootcamp session, so watch out for some partner drills against set time trials,” says Cindy. While for others who prefer neither music, nor endurance and want to try something totally different, Fit Bengaluru also offers aqua aerobics at the Oakwood pool.

Apart from UB City, Cubbon Park too will be used for a few group workouts, so participants can enjoy the outdoors as well. “The idea behind the festival is to let people come and experiment with different forms of workouts and to know more about healthy diet options and how to maintain a fit lifestyle,” says Uzma Irfan, director, Prestige Group.

Rs 400 upwards. Saturday and Sunday, 7 am. At UB City
