Sonic the Hedgehog, the famous video game icon returns to comics this year. The blue Hedgehog has been a video game icon and a comic book star since his 1991 debut.

Shortly after the debut, Archie Comics began publishing a Sonic comic book series that ran for 24 years. But now, it’s a new day for Sonic as IDW prepares to re-launch everyone’s the blue hedgehog with a new series after a long comic book hiatus.

IDW has announced that writer Ian Flynn and artist Tracy Yardley will be the creative team for the new Sonic the Hedgehog comic. Sonic the Hedgehog #1 will be released on Wednesday, April 4.

As part of the relaunch in April, IDW will be releasing the first four issues on a weekly basis, with each issue focusing on one of the main characters from within the series. The new Sonic comics from IDW will also introduce new characters to the official canon.
