Red Hot Chili Peppers announced on Sunday that the band has parted ways with their guitarist Josh Klinghoffer and reunited with John Frusciante.  

The band wrote on Instagram: "The Red Hot Chili Peppers announce that we are parting ways with our guitarist of the past ten years, Josh Klinghoffer.

"Josh is a beautiful musician who we respect and love. We are deeply grateful for our time with him, and the countless gifts he shared with us.

Josh Klinghoffer had famously joined the band after John Frusciante quit the band hours before they were supposed to go on stage in Japan in May 1992. 

Frusciante returned in 1998 and helped create the iconic albums Californication and By The Way, which collectively sold more than 24 million copies.  Frusciante quit the band again in September 2009 during their extended hiatus and was replaced on a full-time basis by Klinghoffer, who was the band’s touring guitarist. 

RHCP is now working on their twelfth studio album, which is slated for release early next year.
