Twenty-three-year-old British actor Emma Corrin has been zeroed in to play the character of Princess Diana, in the fourth season of Netflix’s The Crown. The series is a historical drama series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, created and written by Peter Morgan. 

On joining the cast Corrin said, “Beyond excited and honoured to be joining The Crown for its fourth season. I have been glued to the show since the first episode and to think I’m now joining this incredibly talented acting family is just surreal.”

The late Princess Diana, as is common knowledge, led a troubled life during her marriage to Prince Charles and was separated from him, when she died tragically in a car accident. Nonetheless, she was known to be not just beautiful, but inspiring and iconic, in more ways than one - a sentiment Corrin hopes to bring to the role. “Princess Diana was an icon, and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To be given the chance to explore her through Peter Morgan’s writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice,” she adds.  

Corrin, it is being reported, immediately captivated the makers when she auditioned for the role. “As well as having the innocence and beauty of a young Diana, she also has, in abundance, the range and complexity to portray an extraordinary woman who went from anonymous teenager to becoming the most iconic woman of her generation,” creator Peter Morgan said. 

The next season, Season Three, due to launch later this year, will see the show jump forward in time to 1964. Interestingly, Academy Award Winner Olivia Colman will take over the role of Her Majesty The Queen from Claire Foy, who played the monarch’s younger self.
