Conference rooms, dance floors, sidewalks, under café tables, and even wedding stages—sneakers are everywhere. Gone are the days when they were confined to basketball courts and gym floors and valued purely for function. With its new Anatom Sneakers Collection, Chennai-based footwear brand State of Joy is aiming to rethink what comfort in a sneaker really means.

From workdays to travel: The rise of everyday comfort sneakers

Pullela Gopalakrishna Bachi, co-founder of State of Joy, says, “Having been a shoemaker all my life, I’ve noticed that many shoes in the Indian market are marketed as comfortable, but comfort is often reduced to extra cushioning. A shoe may feel soft at first, but true comfort comes from designing it around the foot. The shape should follow the natural shape of the human foot, and the way you stand and walk should feel as close to barefoot movement as possible. Many shoes today have excessive cushioning, elevated heels, and pronounced toe springs that encourage an unnatural gait. We felt it was the right time to redefine comfort, and that’s why we created Anatom.”

What sets Anatom apart from a regular sneaker is its wider toe box, which allows the feet to move naturally. “We designed Anatom to closely resemble the natural shape of the foot and kept the heel-to-toe drop minimal, so the shoe supports a more natural walking pattern instead of forcing the foot into an unnatural position,” he explains.

Anatom is designed for people who spend a significant part of their day on their feet. Whether you walk long distances for work, stand for extended periods, travel frequently, or are constantly on the move, the shoe is intended to offer all-day comfort.

“We designed Anatom for people who wear their shoes from morning to evening, not just for a specific activity like a run or a gym session. It’s everyday footwear for people who stay active throughout the day,” he adds.
