Forest bathing by the sea

Kovalam to get a mini silent valley right next to the beach

Team Indulge

If this coastal town’s beautiful shores and light house hasn’t wooed you yet, the latest addition to its attractions certainly will. Come September, Kovalam will have a lush green forest adjacent to the sea. Yes, you heard it right. A mini silent valley by the beach. Situated between the tourist information centre and the government guest house, this three-acre property previously belonged to the Travancore royal family. Apart from monkeys and peacocks, these grounds are abundant with varied species of flora and fauna.

Black-tailed godwit

Hailed as a haven for migratory birds such as black-tailed godwit (which flies all the way from Russia), this brings the region a step closer to conserving natural diversity. Special efforts are being made from the authorities side to ensure that the revamping procedures aren’t affecting the existing wildlife in any way. Once completed, the property will be equipped with facilities including a swimming pool, coffee bar, library and a garden.
