Our second award winner to be featured in the Devi Awards countdown series is Sneha
One of the protagonists of the Oscar award-winning documentary, Period: End of sentence, Sneha was recognised for her initiative on menstruation alongside her sister-in-law Suman. Having installed a sanitary pad-making machine in their house and turning it into a small business called 'FLY', the duo not only broke gender taboos but empowered other women in their vicinity. The Oscar awardees went on to receive an Rs. 1 Lakh cash prize from UP CM Akhilesh Yadav and a Rs 50,000 prize from the state's governor, Ram Naik. They are now widely recognised as the 'pad women' of Uttar Pradesh.
