Review: Here's why you should add Tiger Lily Bistro to your list of must-visit cafes in Jubilee Hills

From the outside, the huge white bungalow housing the newly opened café looks rather unpretentious. However, as we step inside through the tiny green door, all signs of the bustling Jubilee Hills disappear — Tiger Lily Bistro is a decidedly tropical affair. Right from the uncut trees to floral patterns on the walls — the décor is drawn mostly from natural elements. The peach-coloured cushion seating and pink walls are complemented by the leaves hanging from the high ceiling and the outdoor space that we would call a mini garden, courtesy the lush green grass and trees.

Add to that, printed flooring! We are admittedly guilty of reaching for our phones every few minutes — but when you visit this bistro, you will see what we’re talking about. “My wife Sripriya Reddy and her partner Nilasha Srinivas have worked on the interiors. From the time we decided to open space, we were keen on giving off laidback holiday vibes, and of course, Instagram-worthy interiors,” shares Aditya Reddy, who co-owns the space with Sanjay Reddy.

Just brew it
It’s Friday lunchtime and the two-week-old outlet is full with patrons tucking into the Truffle Parmesan Fries and a hot cup of Joe. We spot a busy coffee bar situated around a huge tree churning out cups of coffee, one after the other. Curious to understand the high demand for it, we order a Cappuccino and a Cold Brew with Orange.

Meanwhile, we learn that Delhi-based Kaffa Cerrado — known for its slow-roasted Colombian beans — opened its first space in Hyderabad at Tiger Lily Bistro. The drinks arrive and we’re impressed, especially with the smooth and refreshing cold brew.

The focus, we realise, isn’t just on the coffee and interiors but on the food as well. “Along with a variety of coffee options, we want to give the best of world cuisine with focus on Continental. The menu is inspired by my travel experiences and dishes that other restaurants don’t offer,” says Aditya. On cue, arrives the first dish, Water Chestnut (tossed in herbs, garlic and plum sauce). Considering this isn’t one of our favourite vegetables, we’re rather apprehensive of the taste. Turns out, it becomes our most loved dishes, courtesy the crispy texture and tangy flavours.

Bowled over
An interesting take on regular samosas, Mushroom Filo Parcels is another must-try. The flaky snacks is stuffed with soft mushroom and is served with chilli garlic mayo, which won’t have you reaching for the more traditional ketchup. Having finished the cold brew, we sip on Long Drive — a thick and pulpy mocktail made of pomegranate, cucumber, honey and lemon.

The Loaded Oatmeal Bowl is a blessing for those on a low-carb diet — a mix of berries, banana, oats, almond milk, yoghurt, honey and topped with granola and cranberries. But it’s the Mongolian Bowl that’s our favourite. Perfect if you’re looking for a wholesome meal, this main course dish consists of noodles, pak choi, boiled egg and bell peppers, along with a spicy in-house sauce.

Finally, we dig into the signature Stuffed Brioche French Toast. Filled with Nutella and berry compote, this one is a right pick if you’re looking for a delectable and rich dessert to end your meal.

Price for two: Rs.1,300.
