Popular city-based theatre group Samahaara is staging two of its popular play productions: Badal Sircar’s Evam Indrajit (Hindi) and Manoj Mitra’s Bancharam - Thotaku Prema Tho (Telugu).

Both the plays are directed by Dr Pejjai Nagaraju and produced by Rathna Sekhar Reddy, founder of Samahaara.

Synopsis of Evam Indrajit:
Badal Sircar, in his thought-provoking Evam Indrajit, takes us through these existential questions as a reflection of our own lives. Originally written in Bengali in the genre of the Theatre of Absurd, it set a new benchmark for contemporary Indian theatre scenario of the 1960s.

A writer struggling with Writers’ block finds everyone around him too ordinary or undramatic. As he discovers his characters of Amal, Vimal, Kamal, and Indrajit out of this ordinariness, he finds Indrajit different or so he thinks. Indrajit asks difficult questions, tries to break free from societal norms and is disturbed by inequalities around him. Mansi, a creation of the mind, his true companion and confidante act as the catalyst while the Writer and Indrajit discover themselves.

Synopsis of Bancharam - Thotaku Prema Tho:
Bancharam- Thota Ku Prematho, a Telugu adaptation of the classic Hindi play, Bagiya Bancharam Ki by Manoj Mitra, takes us into the world of Bancharam, a lonely old ailing man who has nurtured a beautiful garden with his sweat and blood on a few cents of his land.

At Phoenix Arena, Hitech City. December 7 and 8, 7.30 pm onwards.
