Abhishek Varman’s 2019 period drama Kalank may not have received widespread acclaim upon release, but it seems time has a way of rectifying oversights. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently extended a shoutout to the film, much to the delight of fans.

On Wednesday, the Academy’s official Instagram handle surprised followers with a clip featuring Alia Bhatt’s captivating performance in the song Ghar More Pardesiya. The caption listed the film’s credits, acknowledging the director, cast, composer, and lyricist. This small act of recognition resonated deeply with fans, who flooded the comments section with praise.

Alia’s dedication to the film shone through yet again. Many commented on her exceptional dancing skills, a result of the rigorous Kathak training she undertook for the song. “Alia Bhatt’s performance has been spectacular in every movie she’s done,” remarked one fan, echoing a sentiment shared by many. Another declared her “the biggest female Indian superstar right now.” The song’s beauty wasn’t lost on viewers either, with comments praising the “beautiful song” and “choreography.”

Shreya Ghoshal’s mesmerising vocals also received well-deserved recognition. Fans hailed her as the “undisputed queen of Indian music” and lauded her ‘classical vocal abilities.’ Interestingly, this wasn’t Shreya’s first brush with Academy recognition. Earlier this year, Deewani Mastani, the iconic song from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani, featuring Deepika Padukone, also received a similar shoutout.

This act serves as a reminder that artistic merit can transcend time, and even the most overlooked gems can eventually find their place in the spotlight.
