American playwright Neil Simon, known for comedies like The Odd Couple, Barefoot in the Park and The Sunshine Boys, died on Saturday in Manhattan. He was 91. His death, at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, was announced by his publicist, Bill Evans, who said that the cause was complications of pneumonia.

Simon was popular for Broadway comedy and commercial success in the theatre. Starting with his first Broadway success, Come Blow Your Horn (1961), Simon wrote more than 30 plays and movie screenplays. He also received awards including Tony and Pulitzer Prize, among others.
