Russia is known for its winter wonderland but things might just have gone a bit more icy this winter. In the remote town of Kamchatka, far east of the country, winter didn't knock this time, it barged in. The town has recently seen the heaviest snowfall in 130 years and unimaginable heights of snow have blanketed the land in white.
As the winter sweeps in, snow usually arrives gently bringing in a mood that's undeniably happy. Soft flakes brushing our faces, fields slowly turning white, laughter echoing amidst children as cute snow angels take shape. It's the beauty of the frozen wonderland.
But imagine opening your front door and instead of an open street there’s a huge 40ft heap of snow waiting to greet you in the light of dawn? This is exactly what the town of Kamchatka is facing right now. It is receiving the harshest snowfall in decades that’s literally engulfing the land in snow which measures up to 10-40ft in different areas.
The entire town has declared an emergency. At least two people have tragically lost their lives after massive snow blocks fell from rooftops. As per reports this condition is the result of cyclones over the Pacific Ocean. Locals are calling it the snow apocalypse. It’s quite a disaster on the ground, but the internet of course can’t keep its calm.
Several visuals from the site of the towering snow walls and buried streets have flooded social media, capturing the scale of Kamchatka’s winter fury. Comments poured in and one of the users wrote, “Winter’s raw power truly is awe-inspiring.” Another added, “Kamchatka’s winter whispers wild stories through drifts sculpting silence. Nature’s raw poetry in snow!”
People while digging through the snow looked as if they were surrounded by huge mountains. It looks mesmerizing but thrillingly scary as well. Kamchatka’s record breaking snow is the testament that nature can be breathtaking and terrifying at the same time and we are just a minute creature in the vast serenity of its creation.
