Robert Downey Jr will reportedly be back as the enigmatic superhero Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Black Widow. Downey will be seen reprising Tony Stark aka Iron Man one more time in the prequel, which will release in 2020, reported a news agency.

Downey Jr, who won hearts all across the world as Iron Man, bid adieu to his superhero avatar with Avengers: Endgame this year.

The characters will be back as Black Widow is a prequel taking place ahead of the events of Endgame. It's unknown how big Downey Jr's role in the film will be. Black Widow is set after the events of Captain America: Civil War but before the events of Avengers: Infinity War. The film will trace the story of Natasha Romanoff, who will confront her past.

It was recently reported that Downey Jr would lend his voice to a future Disney+ TV show.

Black Widow will also star Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz and Stranger Things actor David Harbour.

Recently, Marvel boss Kevin Feige unveiled a deleted post-credits scene from Downey Jr’s debut Iron Man film (2008) that referenced Spider-Man and the X-Men, fuelling speculation the latter group of mutants could be joining the MCU soon.

Black Widow will be released in May 2020.
