Artist Bharti Sagar returns with a new show of paintings

Art connoisseurs and enthusiasts will know artist Bharati Sagar's work - paintings of poignant faces. The artist who has always specialised in figurative paintings, is for the first time breaking away and trying something new. Instead of the well-defined contours and faces, Bharati has worked on abstracts and a fluid figures. The 25 new pieces evoke a sense of energy and dynamism. Perhaps a feeling that the artist was going through when she was attempting this new style. "I had been struggling to break away from figurative work and try something new. While I was thinking over it, my husband Surendra (Kumar Sagar) was working on his book (Intelligent Field). These thoughts sort of met and that's when I tried this new theme of painting to bring awareness about environment, the world, the nuclear powers - essentially exploring contradictions and paradoxes that exist in today's world," explains Bharati.

Interesting to note is the fact that, her work may appear that the artist has used coffee as a material to paint but it's in fact a combination of metal dust and lime juice. Bharati has a story behind this as well. When she was in Delhi a few years ago at her art show, there was a painting workshop happening alongside at the venue. After the workshop, Bharti came across a piece of paper on the floor, "It had myriad hues but it was the texture that captivated me. I figured it was metal dust and lime juice. I kept that piece of paper with me for a long time and only now, I tried and used this technique in my new work," she says.

The artist believes, the theme of her paintings is an important subject in today's time - the certainty in uncertainty and vice versa. "In this vast universe, we are just like a small speck, that's what we need to understand and that's what I am trying to showcase through my work," concludes Bharti.
