From taking a bold step of performing hip-hop to growing to become one of the most loved rappers in the country, Mumbai-based Naezy (Naved Sheikh) is certainly quite the stars among the youth. Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh as a rapper, was also inspired by the lives of Naezy and DIVINE.

In a chat with Indulge a few weeks ago, the rapper spoke about his inspirations.“My music is inspired by my surroundings and how people like me react to certain things. So my songs are a lot about politics and social issues,” he shared.

Naezy, at 13, was moved by Sean Paul’s Temperature when he first heard it. His debut video, Aafat, shot on an iPad received more than 4 lakh views in no time. He went on to create songs like Haq Hai, Aane De, Aazad Hu Mein and the latest Aafat Wapas.

“A lot of my fans really enjoy the lyrics and the idea and theme of these songs. But there have been times when the audience has felt offended because of what I sing. Honestly, it’s just my point of view and my experiences. I don’t aim to generalise anyone,” he said.
