Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker has become the first R-rated film in history to cross $1 billion worldwide.
As per reports, the DC character-inspired film crossed the $1 billion mark in raw global grosses. It was made with a budget of $62.5 million.
Joker, a dark origin story from Warner Bros. about Batman’s arch-nemesis, touched $1 billion despite not being screened in China, which is said to be one of the world’s largest movie markets.
Directed by The Hangover’s Todd Phillips, the film takes a dark look at an aspiring stand-up comedian in Gotham City, who descends into madness as his career and life begin to spiral out of control. The cast also includes Robert De Niro and Zazie Beetz. It released on October 2, 2019, in India.
