The Strancally Castle is a stunning Gothic-style mansion set across a sprawling 440-acre estate in County Waterford, offering the couple a grand retreat to call home during their visits to Ireland. The castle was built in 1830 for John Keily, a former Conservative MP, and designed on a lavish scale by the architects James and George Richard Pain.

In a book the castle’s interiors have been described quite interestingly where in one place it was mentioned that it would take a few minutes to walk from the kitchen to the dining room, emphasising on the castle’s sprawling scene.

The exact price Mark and Priscilla paid for the castle has not been disclosed. However, as per reports it could be worth between €20 million and €30 million.

Purpose of the purchase

The spokesperson, informing the media about the couple’s acquisition, told, “Mark and his family are excited to continue caring for this historic home and look forward to spending time in Ireland, where Meta maintains its international headquarters”.

The castle is set to become a getaway place for the couple. They also plan to preserve its historic charm through the necessary conservation efforts. The property was previously owned and renovated in the early 2000s by Michael Alen-Buckley, co-founder of investment firm RAB Capital, and his wife, Giancarla.

The nearby properties

This one is not a standalone property owned by an international businessman. The area is also home to several other prestigious properties owned by high-profile business figures. As per reports, entrepreneur James Dyson purchased Ballynatray House in 2024, while Stripe co-founder John Collison acquired Abbey Leix in County Laois in 2021.
